The Aberdeen Wings have signed free agent goaltender Luke Kania to play this season for the Aberdeen Wings.
Luke Kania, a goaltender from Chicago, IL played prep hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary’s. There he was 26-3-1 with a .924 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average. Shattuck-St. Mary’s is the alma mater of NHL stars such as Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Zach Parise, among many others.
After a successful prep career, Kania was selected in the 23rd round of the 2013 USHL Draft by the Chicago Steel. Kania was honored with the Eddie Olczyk Award, a financial assistance award from the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and 16-year NHL veteran Eddie Olczyk.
Kania joins the Aberdeen Wings for the final push of the 2014-2015 season in the pipes along with #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK). The signing comes after the Wings traded goaltender Chad Catt to the Soo Eagles of the NAHL North Division.
