Wings select three in 2021 NAHL Supplemental Draft

The Aberdeen Wings have selected a goalie, a defenseman and a forward to join the Wings roster for the 2021-22 hockey season.

The first pick, 28th overall, is goaltender Edward “Jed” Baliotti from New Canaan, CT. At 6’3″ and 185 lbs., he most recently played with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL. Before that, he was a member of the NCDC’s Northern Cyclones, where he recorded a 3.82 goals-against average and a .879 save percentage in eight games played.

“Jed is a big goalie with experience in junior hockey,” Steve Jennings, Director of Player Personnel, said following the draft. “With his size and experience, I see him fitting right in with our club next year. Being on the NHL Central Scouting list is a tremendous feather in his cap as well.”

The Wings’ second pick, 55th overall, is Hugo Lindman Gustavsson, a 6’0″ 190 lb. defenseman from Östervåla, Sweden. During his 2020-21 season with the Brynäs IF J20 team, Hugo recorded two goals and four assists in 14 games played. He’ll come to Aberdeen from the Sport Vaasa U20 team.

“He’ll be exciting for us next year,” Jennings said. “He has the ability to come in and run a power play and, again, has gathered some great experience to date.”

The third and final pick, 71st overall, is Felikss Egils Gavars. The 5’10” 182 lb. left-hander from Riga, Latvia spent his 2020-21 season with the Selects Academy 18U AAA team, where he recorded 15 goals and 23 assists in 26 games played.

“While being from Lativa, he has spent the last few years in the US playing at the highly-respected Selects Academy at South Kent School,” Jennings said. “He’s also been drafted by Fargo in the USHL; we know he’s the caliber of player and person who will succeed here in Aberdeen.”
