Wings roll over Minot

The Aberdeen Wings continued their exhibition dominance Saturday night at the Odde Ice Center as they rolled over Minot 7-1 to complete the exhibition weekend sweep.

After a scoreless first period, Kyle Gaffney put the Wings up 1-0 with his first of the night and third of the weekend with an assist from Jordan Randall. Peyton Matsui matched Gaffney with his third of the weekend midway through the second period to put the Wings up 2-0 on the power play, with an assist from Liam Fraser and Spencer Schneider.

Thomas Manty added to the lead to close out the scoring in the second with his first of the night and second of the weekend to give the Wings a 3-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. Assisting on the Manti goal were Clayton Cosentino and Natan Vertes.

The Wings continued into the third with a power play goal from Nathan Mann, who snagged his second of the weekend and first of the night with Trevor Russel assisting. Mann would get another to give the Wings a 5-0 lead midway through the third, with the assist from Jacob Stender and Randall.

Dylan Thackery added to the scoring sheet with the Wings sixth straight goal at the 12:26 mark of the third period on the power play, with the assist coming from Fraser.

Minot would get on the board with a goal at the 13:24 mark in the third period when MacDonell found the back of the net on the power play. But just over thirty seconds later, Cosentino ended the scoring with a goal at the 14 minute mark of the 3rd period, with Manty and Walker getting the assist.

Jake Sibell stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced in net to get the win.

“Tonight the Wings staff liked our relentless pursuit of the puck,” head coach and general manager Scott Langer said. “It’s a big step to utilize two different lineups and get the results we were looking for.”

The Wings hit the road next weekend to take on Bismarck Friday and Minot Saturday. The Wings will return home for their final exhibition home weekend, taking on the Austin Bruins October 2nd & 3rd.  For tickets head over to tickets.aberdeenwings.com
