Wings pick up a point in Austin

Jan 11, 2016

The Aberdeen Wings were on the road this past weekend taking on the Austin Bruins.  In a game that would go back and forth the Wings ended up on the short end, but ultimately earned a point.  Tucker DeYoung got the scoring started just under 3 minutes into the 1st period.  Siemers assisted DeYoung on the goal.  Austin would respond a little over midway through the 1st to tie the game.  With just over a minute remaining in the 1st Fitzgerald gave the Wings their lead back with a power play goal, as Carter Roo and DeYoung assisted Kevin on the goal.  The teams would head into the intermission with the Wings holding a 2-1 lead.  It would stay like that through the 2nd and 13 minutes into the 3rd until Austin was able to tie the game and eventually send it to overtime.  Mid-way through the overtime period Austin would end it with a goal from Misiak.  Thome was in net for the Wings and stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced.

Saturday night Austin would be the ones to get the scoring started early, less than 2 minutes into the game the Bruins had a 1-0 lead.  Tucker DeYoung would once again put the Wings on the board at the 7:16 mark of the 1st period with a power play goal from Okeson and Cook.  That would be all the scoring for the Wings and the Bruins added 2 more in the 1st and an empty netter in the 3rd to get the 4-1 win and weekend sweep.

This week the Wings are on the road in Brookings Wednesday night, In Bismarck Friday night then back home Saturday to take on the Bobcats.
