Wings Fall to Bismarck in Final Game of Round 1

May 2, 2024

The Aberdeen Wings had to take a final trip up to Bismarck to decide who was moving on to the Central Division Finals after tying the series.

Bismarck would start off the scoring in the first period when Mathieu Bourgault would score. After back and forth action, Bismarck’s Kade Kohanski would score again, leaving the score 2-0 in favor of Bismarck leaving the first.

Heading into the second period, the Wings knew they would have to put up a huge defensive effort. Both teams would get an even 8 shots on goal in the second, but there would be no additional scoring.

It was not until the final few minutes in the third period that more scoring would occur. Bismarck’s Tommy Cronin would extend their lead 3-0, but Matthew Wisener for the Wings would get them on the board, this goal being assisted by Grant Winkler and Leonid Bulgakov. The Wings would then pull their goalie to try and get a few more on the board, but Tamas Toth in the final minute for Bismarck would score on the empty net. This would leave the score 4-1 in favor of Bismarck, and Bismarck would move on to the Central Division Finals.

Adam Dybal was in net for the Wings and saved 25 of 28.
