Wings embark on January road stretch

Jan 5, 2023

The Aberdeen Wings continue the second half of the 2022-23 hockey season with a stretch of road games before finishing the month back at home at the Odde Ice Center.

The Wings carry a three-game win streak to kick off January on the road against the Austin Bruins inside Riverside Arena. The Wings (17-9-1-2) and the Bruins (19-5-3-4) are currently the top two teams in the Central Division; Austin leads with 45 points in 31 games played, while the Wings sit eight points behind them with 37 points in 29 games played.

The two teams are no strangers to each other at the halfway point in the season. Friday’s meeting will be their ninth, with Aberdeen holding a 5-2-0-1 record so far. The Wings are 3-1 in their last four matchups with Austin, and look to gain four more points in an effort to catch the division’s leaders.

Fans can watch the games using their HockeyTV login, or catch the action at Buffalo Wings & Rings in Aberdeen, the official home for all Wings away games. The game’s audio will be broadcast via Hub City Radio’s 94.1 The Rock or The Rock app.

After a week of practice, Aberdeen will hit the road again the following weekend, Jan. 13-14, to face the Minot Minotauros for just their third and fourth games between the two this season. Minot (16-13-1-1) sits in third behind the Wings in the standings, holding 34 points in 31 games played, and each team has a win over the other, with Aberdeen’s in regulation and Minot’s in overtime.

The Wings’ lone Thursday game this season comes at home on Jan. 19 to kick off a five-game stretch against the Bismarck Bobcats. We welcome Dakotaland Federal Credit Union as the game’s corporate sponsor that night. Stay tuned to AberdeenWings.com and our social media pages for more game details.

The Bobcats (11-15-2-1) are at the bottom of the division with 15 points in 29 games after most recently falling to Minot three games in a row. But Bismarck does carry a 3-2-0-0 record over Aberdeen — and before the month is out, the teams will have ten games played against each other.

Following Thursday’s home game, the Wings travel to Bismarck on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21 before wrapping the month back at the Odde on Jan. 27-28. Once again, stay tuned to AberdeenWings.com for game details.
