Wings Earn Weekend Split at Home Vs St. Cloud

Jan 1, 2024

The Aberdeen Wings faced the St. Cloud Norsemen on home ice for their last games of the year 2023. Hagen Moe (St. Cloud) starts the scoring early in the first to give them the lead. Later, Kie Vahakangas tries for a one-timer off the face-off that finds the back of the net, but called as a no goal. The Wings set up again, Matthew Wisener found Nikolai Tishkevich who would initially shoot, and Kie Vahakangas would then shoot the rebound off of Ryan Manzella, and the Wings would get on the board. About a minute later, the Wings found themselves on a breakaway where Wes Turner would pass to Logan Gravink, who would stall and pass to Riley Sharun, and the Wings put themselves up 2-1 going into the second period.

Most of the second period would be played scoreless, until at the 17:13 mark where Zachary Reim would score, and assists went to Gravink and Collora. Before the period ended, Nikolai Tishkevich would extend the Wings lead at the 19:02 mark, granting assists to Comfort and Pollock. The Wings went into the third period having a 4-1 lead.

To end the scoring for the night, Logan Gravink scored four minutes into the third period. There were many other chances for scoring, but Adam Dybal only allowed one for St. Cloud all of Friday night. Dybal saved 33 of 34, and the Wings would win with a score of 5-1.

Saturday seemed to be a bit of a turn-around, however. Just 3 minutes in, Hagen Moe would get St. Cloud on the board. After, Tyler Dysart would score to give the St. Cloud the lead of 2-1 (St. Cloud) after the first.

The second period went scoreless, but St. Cloud really tested the Wings penalty kill teams. In net, Croix Kochendorfer (Wings) allowed for no goals in the second, leaving the score at 2-1 (St. Cloud).

The final period for Saturday ended with two more goals for St. Cloud credited to Hagen Moe and Michael Coleman. Kochendorfer stopped 29 of 33.

The Wings are back at home January 19th and 20th Vs Minot.
