Wings Drop Close Game Friday

Mar 11, 2023

The Aberdeen Wings fell to the Austin Bruins 2-1 on Friday night. The team battled penalties and a lot of pressure from the Bruins offense. The Wings were outshot 35-22 in the game and both teams went 0/6 on the powerplay.

The first period was full of physicality. And a lot of playing in the defensive zone. The Bruins struck early with a goal coming from Josh Giuliani only 1:44 into the first. The rest was penalties. There were 3 penalties on the Wings and two on the Bruins. Both teams were able to fight off the penalty kill with the Wings killing a 5 on 3 for almost two minutes. The Bruins outshot the Wings 12-6 in the first.

The second period was just like the first. Penalties and an Austin Bruins goal. This goal coming from Gavin Morrissey 16:43 into the second period. The Wings were still able to kill off all of the penalty kills they faced and so did the Bruins. The Bruins also outshot the Wings 13-8.
In the third is when the Wings were able to produce some offense. They got on the board for the first time in the game 5:59 into the third period with Kyle Contessa able to beat Austins goaltender Trent Wiemken. After that it was quiet with both teams not finding the back of the net for the rest of the game. The Wings would find themselves on the power play three different times in the third. But weren’t able to capitalise on any chance.
Cole Moore was able to stop 33/35 shots he faced in Friday night’s loss with Bruins’ Brent Wiemken making 21/22 saves. The Wings are back at the Odde Saturday night, Mar. 11th. Once again facing the Austin Bruins.
