Wings, Dill silence Bobcats 5-1

Feb 27, 2014

The Aberdeen Wings were on the road to Bismarck to face the Bobcats on Friday night. Both teams are battling for the 2nd place spot in the NAHL Central standings. Also, both teams have clinched a playoff spot.

The first period would be a flat out battle, but Bismarck would throw 17 shots on goal against Aberdeen’s 8 shots. At the 5:19 mark, on the power play, Wings forward #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) would score on a tipped forward pass from #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) and #15 Jordan Heller (F-Bemidji, MN). Later in the period, Bismarck would answer with a goal from Tony German. 1-1 going into the first intermission, the Wings got a well needed breather.

The second period however, would be all Aberdeen. Again on the power play, at the 6:54 mark, Wings forward #11 TJ Roo (F-Coon Rapids, MN) would score thanks to an assist from #20 Dillon Eichstadt (D-Bemidji, MN). About halfway through the period, Wings forward #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA) would find the back of the net thanks to assists from #17 Davis DeKorte (F-DeWitt, MI) and #4 Jake Horton. After the second period, the Wings had the lead 3-1.

The third period will be a constant trade off of power plays by both Bismarck and Aberdeen. At the 15:28 mark, Bismarck’s goaltender Nelson would come a little too far out of the net to play the puck and Wings forward #12 Austin Heakins (F-Mars, PA) would poke it past him for the goal and 4-1 lead. Bismarck would pull their goaltender for the extra attacker after a Wings penalty making it 4-on-6. The Bobcats would not be able to hold the zone and #15 Jordan Heller would score the easy empty net goal making it 5-1 for the win. Wings goaltender #30 Henry Dill stopped 41 of 42 shots.

The Aberdeen Wings will take on the Bismarck Bobcats on Saturday night at the Odde Ice Center. General admission tickets are just $10, reserved seating $12. College students, bring your student ID and get $2 off your admission.
