Your Aberdeen Wings were able to complete a comeback with a late 3rd period goal to take game 1 of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine Minnesota 4-3 over the Corpus Christi IceRays Wednesday evening.
In the first period it was former Wing, Nils Forselius getting the scoring started with a shot from the slot that beat the Wings goaltender Stewart. That was all the scoring in the period as both team were unsuccessful on their power play attempts, ABD 0-1, CCI 0-2. Just 46 seconds into the 2nd period Anthony Cafarelli gave the IceRays a 2-0 lead with the assist going to Biedermann. The Wings were finally able to get on the board at the 13:20 mark of the 2nd period when Isak Holmstrom was able to get his first goal as a Wing with Gravink getting the assist. Corpus Christi would answer 3 minutes later with a Mathieu Bourgault unassisted goal. With under a minute goal Logan Gravink was able to swing the momentum back in the Wings favor with a goal at the 19:11 mark. Pollock assisted on the goal. The IceRays took a 3-2 lead into the final period. The 3rd was all Aberdeen as Simon Pollock was able to tie the game at the 5:36 mark, with an assist from Sharun. Jaxson Murray closed out the scoring with a goal at the 13:48 mark, with Reim assisting. The Wings were able to hold off the IceRays for the rest of the game fighting off a couple of penalties and an empty net attacker to get the 4-3 opening day win. “The importance of staying persistent was a big deal today. It’s a good lesson to learn in day one. I thought we improved as the game went on and to get the first one at this showcase build confidence.” Wings Head Coach & GM Scott Langer.
