Wings Come Home With Weekend Split VS Austin

The Aberdeen Wings traveled to Austin over the weekend, and earn a split winning 6-2 on Friday, but falling 1-5 on Saturday. 

 

Matthew Wisener would be the first to get on the board in Friday’s contest granting assists to Kie Vahakangas, and Leonid Bulgakov. This would be the only scoring opportunity in the first period.

The second period started with fast paced competition right away, and Salvatore Collora would score again for the Wings, with assists going to Logan Gravink and Kie Vahakangas. Following shortly after, Zachary Reim, in his 100th NAHL game, would extend the Wings with Bennett Koupal and Seth Wall assisting. With the score being 3-0 in favor of the Wings, Austin’s Jackson Rilei would get them on the board for the first time. The score would be 3-1 going into the third period. 

In the third period, the Wings would have another offensive breakout. Jibber Kuhl would start the scoring in the third just one minute into the period. Assisting on the goal is Riley Sharun and Wes Turner. At the 10:13 mark, Bennett Koupal would add to the scoring, with Nick Comfort and Luke Backel assisting. In response, the Bruin’s Austin Salani would increase their score leaving it 5-2. To end the game, Riley Sharun would send one into the empty net, with the final score being 6-2, Wings. 

Adam Dybal was in net Friday night and saved 26 of 28 shots faced. 

 

Saturday night would have a bit of a turnaround, however. The first period went almost completely by without any scoring until the Bruin’s Ashton Bynum would find the back of the net at the 19:37 mark. The score would be 0-1 going into the second. 

The second period would start right away with Austin’s Dylan Cook scoring just 39 seconds into the period. Soon after, the Wings would finally have a response when Luke Backel would score, granting assists to Bennett Koupal and Zachary Reim. Later, the Bruin’s Jackson Luther would extend their lead, followed by another goal scored by Damon Furuseth. The Wings would head into the third period with the score being 1-4 in favor of Austin. 

The last period almost went completely scoreless even though the Wings would have multiple Power Play chances. To finish the game, Austin’s Austin Salani would fire toward the empty net. 

Adam Dybal would start the night saving 17 of 21. After Austin scored their fourth, the Wings would then put Croix Kochendorfer in to finish the second and third period. Croix saved 8 of 8.
