Wings Beat Minot 4-3 In Shootout

Friday night the Aberdeen Wings hit the road to take on the Minot Minotauros. The Wings came away with a 4-3 shootout win.

The first period would feature high scoring for both teams. At the 9:05 mark, Wings forward #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario) scored thanks to assists from #29 Matt Sherman (D-White Lake, MI) and #4 Eric Moser (D-Chicago, IL). Minot would then score back to back goals within 20 seconds of each other to take a 2-1 lead. On the power play, at the 18:41 mark the Wings would score again thanks to a goal from #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN) with assists from #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). Now tied 2-2, the Wings would look to score again with seconds left in the first period while on the power play. Wings defenseman #6 Michael Heidkamp (D-Marietta, GA) would score the first goal of his NAHL career with assists from #24 Ronnie Hein (F-Chelsea, MI) and #16 Kyle Haak. The period would end with the Wings leading 3-2.

Just 33 seconds into the second period, the Minotauros would tie up the game with a goal from Jared Brandt. That would be the final score of regulation. In overtime, neither team would have a consistent scoring attack sending the game into a final shootout.

Wings forward #16 Kyle Haak would score to start the shootout. Minot missed. Wings forward #13 Michael Soucier would score, Minot missed. Wings defenseman #10 Tanner Okeson would score, Minot would also score sending the shootout into another frame. Wings forward #11 Victor Ostling would miss, but Minot would also miss giving Aberdeen the victory.

Wings goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK) stopped 30 shots on goal for his 5th career win. The Minotauros outshot the Wings 33-18, but with the victory the Wings snapped a 4 game losing streak.
