Aberdeen holds on for 5-3 win against Bismarck

The Bismarck Bobcats tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Aberdeen Wings held on for a 5-3 victory.

Aberdeen took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Bismarck storm back on a Shane Omdahl goal 16:46 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

With the win, the Wings evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown.

Aberdeen was paced on offense by Steve Obarzanek and Cory Ward, who combined for six points. Obarzanek finished with two goals and two assists and Ward also added two goals.

The Wings’ offense rang up 37 shots on the Bobcats’ net.

Mack Ohnsted also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Tyler Dunagan and Joseph Sullivan, who contributed one a piece and Kevin Becker and Lane Mahoney, who each chipped in two.

Bismarck kept Aberdeen’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Zelzer made 34 saves on 37 shots.

Bismarck also got a goal from Francis DeAugustine as well. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Buster Hebda, Donald Olivieri, Tyler Richter, Castan Sommer, Bryce Schmitt, and Patrick Moore, who contributed one a piece.

The Wings totaled 39 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. Tommy Burke rejected 32 shots on goal for the Bobcats. Bismarck totaled 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
