Aberdeen holds on for 3-1 win against Minot

The Minot Minotauros tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Aberdeen Wings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

Aberdeen took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Minot storm back on a Lucas Oliver goal 12:23 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Wings’ Chad Catt was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Catt certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.08 entering the contest.

Aberdeen’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Minot power plays. The Wings’ defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. By firing 32 shots on goal, Aberdeen exceeded the 25.3 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wings were helped by Kyle Kruenegel, who grabbed one goal. Kruenegel scored 13:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Aberdeen. Jonathan Grebosky assisted on the tally. Aberdeen also got points from Grebosky, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Steven Johnson also scored for Aberdeen. In addition, Aberdeen received assists from Peter Krieger and Justin Parizek, who each chipped in one.

With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Minotauros exceeded the 24.0 shots they average per game this year. Minot struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Jake Clifford, who had one.

Aberdeen incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Minotauros’ Tyler Parks stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. For Minot, Collin Abitz was ejected from the game.
