Soucier Scores GW in OT, Wings Beat Austin

Oct 2, 2014

Some in the media world of North American Hockey League list weekly power rankings. This game was set to be the matchup of the weekend as the #1 ranked Austin Bruins (5-1-0) hosted the #4 ranked Aberdeen Wings (4-2-0) for their home opener Friday night.

Due to complications at the rink, video and statistics were unavailable during the game.

The game was broadcast live with the Voice of the Wings Jay Kleinknecht offering play-by-play on 94.1 The Rock and on ESPNAberdeen.com.

The game was very physical throughout the game. Both teams had many scoring chances. Regulation would end in no score, 0-0. In the overtime period, after two beautiful passes, Wings forward #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario) barried home the game-winning goal improving the Wings to 5-2-0 this season, dropping Austin to 5-1-1. Wings goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge stopped every shot he faced for his first NAHL career shutout. Shortridge is now 4-0-0 in net for the Wings with a goals against average just above 1.00 and save percentage around 96%.
