Mar 16, 2020

ABERDEEN, S.D.: The North American Hockey League (NAHL), which includes the Aberdeen Wings, has announced that all remaining 2019-20 regular season games have been canceled effective immediately due to the international medical emergency caused by COVID-19.

The NAHL’s regular season was scheduled to end Sunday, April 4.

“We understand that this is a very difficult time for our hockey community and we are working on all options in order to conclude the season with a Robertson Cup Championship,” Mark Frankenfeld, NAHL commissioner, said in a statement. “We are actively and continuously monitoring a very challenging and fluid environment
in order to make the right decision for everyone involved.”

An announcement was made Monday morning to send the current roster of Wings players back to their home states. The Aberdeen Wings feel it’s important for all our players to be able to go home to support their family, friends and loved ones. The Wings staff will continue to be in contact with all players during this time.

Additionally, the end-of-year banquet scheduled for Sunday, March 29 at the Yedulz Shrine Center has been canceled.

We are learning more about COVID-19 every day. Taking care of our players, staff and fans is of highest priority. We will continue to update the community of any new developments as we hear more from the NAHL and the state of South Dakota.
