The Aberdeen Wings proud members of the North American Hockey League are pleased to announce that goaltender Matt Vernon has committed to play Division I Hockey at Colorado College.  Matt is a 5’11 170lb left handed catching goaltender from San Jose, CA.  The 20 year old is in his 2nd season with the Wings, in that time Matt has played in 57 games.  During the 2017-18 season Matt had a 2.01 GAA and a .912 SVS%.  So far this season Matt has played in 29 games and has a 2.09 GAA and a .931 SVS%.  He has 890 saves on the season so far including 4 shut out wins.  For his efforts Matt has been named the NAHL Central Division Star of the Week two times.  Matt was also named the NAHL Goaltender of the Month and USAJHM NAHL Player of the Month in December when he went a perfect 6-0-0 giving up just 6 goals in those 6 games.  Matt currently leads the NAHL with 23 wins and is 4th in Save Percentage.

“Matt is a perfect example of what the NAHL is all about. He has utilized his two years the right way and fought for this opportunity. He is a hard working individual that conducts himself like a pro. His work ethic and leadership are why he opened doors to play at the next level, and I believe will be the reason he has success at Colorado College.”—Wings Head Coach Scott Langer

“I want to thank the Wings organization, the Odde family, Coach Langer, Coach Hill, Coach Bohn, my billets, my teammates, the community of Aberdeen, my family and my friends for helping me with my journey to this point. I could not have done it without everyone. I look forward to finishing out the year strong and getting my college career started at Colorado College!”—Matt Vernon
