Former Wings Shine Over College Weekend

Former Aberdeen Wings shined over the weekend in collegiate hockey. #3 Sam Coburn (F-Concordia Moorhead), #35 Zach Nagelvoort (G-Michigan), and #13 Cory Ward (F-Bemidji State) helped contribute to their teams over the weekend.

Bemidji State split with Lake Superior State over the weekend, but former Wings captain Cory Ward added goals both nights. Friday, November 22nd the Beavers hockey club dropped a game 3-2, with one of the goals coming from Ward just 30 seconds into the 2nd period. Saturday night was a different story as the Beavers would take Lake Superior State into overtime and win 2-1 on a game winning goal from Ward, his 8th of the season. Cory Ward played for Aberdeen (NAHL) from 2010-2012 scoring 67 goals and recording 53 assists.

Sam Coburn, a forward for the Wings in 2012-2013, helped Concordia-Moorhead achieve a 3-2 win over Bethel College by offering an assist to a goal from Caleb Suderman. It was Corburn’s third point of the 2013-2014 college season improving the team to (6-2-0). Coburn became an Aberdeen Wing after being acquired in a trade from the Bismarck Bobcats last season. Former Wings goaltender Jordyn Kaufer also plays for Concordia-Moorhead.

Zach Nagelvoort, the standout goaltender for the University of Michigan recorded his 1st collegiate shutout as the Wolverines beat Niagara 6-0 on Saturday. Nagelvoort stopped all 36 shots while killing 2 penalties. It is his 5th win of the season. Nagelvoort played for the Wings in the second half of the 2012-2013 season after being acquired in a trade from the Soo Eagles.
