Ferguson named February Defenseman of the Month

Bauer Hockey NAHL Defenseman of the Month: Cullen Ferguson, Aberdeen Wings

Aberdeen Wings defenseman and Union College commit Cullen Ferguson, 20, settled into his new role with the Wings in February.

The 6’0, 180 lb. native of Billbrook, Ontario played in seven games during the month and posted eight points, which included three goals and five assists and was also a +7.

Two of Ferguson’s three goals during the month were game-winners for the Wings, who lead the NAHL with a 29-1-1 record. He also had two multi-point games and recorded at least a point in seven of the eight games played in Feburary. Since joining the Wings in January, Ferguson has nine points in 12 games played.

“Cullen has been a tremendous addition,” Wings head coach and general manager Scott Langer said. “He competes every shift of every game. When he arrived, Cullen was an instant leader from the time he walked in our locker room. His consistent play adds a great amount of depth to our blue line.”

“I am really happy with the way the team has played,” Ferguson said. “There are a lot of great players and chemistry in the locker room, so I am excited for the remainder of the season and the playoffs. The NAHL has a great brand of hockey and there is a lot of talent. The style of play in the league is aggressive and based on taking away time and space, so I have had to adapt to that, and it really puts the focus on being solid as a team at both ends of the ice. My goals haven’t changed much since making my NCAA commitment. I’m here to win a National Championship with the Wings. I want to put personal accolades aside. All I care about right now is getting better and helping the team win and be successful.”

Wings goalie Jacob Sibell was given named the runner-up for February’s Goalie of the Month after receiving the honor in both December 2020 and January 2021. Sibell leads all NAHL goalies statistically, posting an impressive 24-0-0-1 record in 26 games played so far this season. He currently boasts a 1.08 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage; he also leads the league with eight shutouts.
