Dill, Wings beat Bismarck 3-2

Dec 21, 2013

The Aberdeen Wings were on the road Saturday night taking on the Bismarck Bobcats in their final game before the NAHL Christmas break.

The game opened up early with both teams having trouble finding shots on goal, but with 13:25 on the clock in the first period, Wings defenseman #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) would blast his league leading 11th goal among NAHL defensemen. Assists would come from #11 TJ Roo (F-Coon Rapids, MN) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). The first period would end with the Wings up 1-0.

At the start of the second period, the Wings would receive a penalty putting the Bobcats on the power play. Bismarck would tie things up on the 5-on-4 advantage with a goal from Giesler. Immediately following that goal, Bismarck would strike again with a goal from Kovar. About midway through the second period, the Wings would be on the attack as Horton would try pushing the puck in with Bismarck’s goaltender making the initial save. The rebound would be left for #16 Kyle Haak to slap home his 11th goal of the season, 7th goal in his last 9 games. Following the goal, Wings forward #18 Austin Swingle (F-Sartell, MN) would get boarded up in the Bobcats by #21 Matt Anders. During the board-up, Anders would continue to deliver glove shots to the head of Swingle. As the puck came loose, Swingle would flat-out manhandle Anders to the ice. The 2nd period would end in a 2-2 tie.

Just five minutes into the third period, Aberdeen would score off the stick of #27 Erik Baskin (F-Minnetonka, MN) on assists from #19 Colin O’Neill (F-Odenton, MD) and #7 Matt Brettingen (D-St. Cloud, MN). The Wings would take the 3-2 lead to the final horn for their 17th win of the season.
