DeYoung Lifts Wings to Weekend Split

Dec 20, 2015

The Aberdeen Wings looked to go into the Christmas break by building momentum for the 2nd half push.  They started Friday night at the Odde taking on instate rival Brookings.  Early on Wings Forward Tucker DeYoung took it upon himself to get things going.  Just 4:22 into the game DeYoung netted his 5th goal of the season with Will Hammer and Kevin Fitzgerald assisting on the goal.  at the 11:17 mark in the 1st DeYoung would tally his 6th goal of the season on the power play, this time with Brendon Riordan & Fitzgerald assisting, sending both teams into the locker room with the Wings leading 2-0.  Brookings would add their only goal in the 2nd to make things tight heading into the 3rd.  But in the 3rd it was all Aberdeen.  When Jake Leitner lit the lamp with an unassisted goal at the 6:13 mark.  Austin Heakins would add an empty netter to seal the victory for the Wings.  Gavin Paczosa stopped 34 of the 35 shots on goal in the contest.

Saturday night the Wings welcomed Minot to town, and were perhaps a bit to hospitable.  Minot scored early and often jumping out to a quick 2 goal lead.  Jake Leitner would get the Wings to within a goal midway through the 1st with Kyle Siemers assisting.  That was all the offense Aberdeen was able to muster up however and Minot would pour it on it the 2nd and 3rd to leave town with a 7-1 win.  Paczosa was once again in net and made 30 saves on 37 shots.

The Wings will head to Christmas break with a 9-14-4 record on the season.  They will be back in action New Years Eve at the Odde Ice Center when they host Brookings.  The Aberdeen Wings Organization would like to wish you and your family a safe and merry Christmas!
