The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Hugo Allais has committed to play collegiate hockey at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), a Canadian university located between Montreal and Quebec.
Allais, 21, spent his final year of junior eligibility with the Wings, appearing in 57 games during the 2021-22 season. The 5’11″ 175 lb. native of Amiens, France was eleventh overall in team points, second among defensemen, scoring seven goals and adding 13 assists during the regular season. He also added a goal and three assists in seven playoff games.
Prior to coming to the NAHL, Allais spent two seasons with the Sorel-Tracy Rebelles in the QCHL, where he notched 24 goals and 33 assists in 64 games played. He also scored two goals and an assist while playing for Team France U20.
“I’m proud and honored to announce my commitment to play college hockey in Canada for UQTR in Trois-Rivières,” Allais said. “I want to thank my family, coaches and teammates who have helped me during my career.”
UQTR is a member of U Sport, which is the national governing body for Canadian university athletics and play at the highest level. Wings fans may remember Nic Sicoly, who joined another U Sport University after his time in Aberdeen. The UQTR men’s hockey team has won four University Cup national championships since the program was first established in 1969.
“I’m very happy for Hugo,” Wings head coach Steve Jennings said. “He grew a lot as a player this season and was very versatile for us. He has a warrior mentality and is a great teammate. I am excited to track his continued development at UQTR.”
