Aberdeen vanquishes Bismarck in shootout, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Aberdeen Wings defeated the Bismarck Bobcats in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Bismarck got shootout goals from Nate Repensky and Patrick Moore. Aberdeen also got shootout goals from Peter Krieger and Justin Parizek.The Wings overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Aberdeen trailed 3-1 after a goal by the Bobcats’ Moore at 18:39 in the second period. The Wings tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jake Horton at 7:46 in the third period.

Krieger had a great game for Aberdeen, netting two goals. Krieger scored at 11:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Bismarck and again while on the power play 21 seconds into the third to make the score 3-2 Bismarck.

The Wings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bismarck to score on any of its three power plays. With 29 shots on target during the contest, Aberdeen exceeded the 25.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Aberdeen also got points from Horton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Aberdeen were Steven Johnson, Jordan Heller, Kyle Haak, Parizek, and Jonathan Grebosky, who contributed one a piece.

The Bobcats put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 they average per game.

Zach Nagelvoort made 33 saves for the Wings on 36 shots. Aberdeen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Aaron Nelson recorded 25 saves for Bismarck. The Bobcats incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

The Wings are at home this weekend to take on the Minnesota Wilderness.  With the season winding down and such a tight race for the playoffs the Wings will be looking for some home cooking.  Friday night is 1st Responders Night!  All 1st Responders will receive FREE admission to the game!  Saturday night is Season Ticket Appreciation Night!
