Wings Lose 4-2

Feb 23, 2014

Saturday night the Aberdeen Wings were in action at the Austin Bruins. The Wings have won 5 of their last 6 games after losing Friday night 2-1 in overtime to Austin.

Halfway through the first period, Wings forward #11 TJ Roo (F-Coon Rapids, MN) would score his 17th goal of the season, with assists from #20 Dillon Eichstadt (D-Bemidji, MN) and #15 Jordan Heller (F-Bemidji, MN). Starting goaltender #1 Chad Catt (G-Williamstown, MI) would stop all 7 shots by Austin in the first period.

Unlike Friday night’s game which saw only a combine 8 penalty minutes, Saturday night’s game would end up totaling 14 infractions for a combined 34 penalty minutes. Austin would get on the board at the 10:26 mark with a goal from Joe Schuldt. As previously mentioned, the intensity would pick up and Wings forward #8 Drew Doyon (F-Indianapolis, IN) would drop the gloves with Brian Bachnak. Late in the 2nd period, the Bruins would get a goal from Niko Hildenbrand, making it 2-1 after the period. Austin outshot the Wings 13-9.

The third period would mainly be handled by the Austin Bruins as big man Jay Dickman would score on the power play for his 21st goal of the season. The Wings would then go on the power play looking to score, but Austin’s Luke Dietsch would sneak behind Aberdeen defenders and score the short-handed goal. Now 4-1, the Wings would get back on the power play and score thanks to a goal from #27 Erik Baskin (F-Minnetonka, MN) with assists from #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). The Wings however would be outshot 12-2 in the final period, 32-21 for the game. Wings goaltender #1 Chad Catt would stop 28 of 32 shots.

The 4-2 loss for the Wings would keep them in 3rd place in the NAHL Central standings behind now first place Austin and second-place Bismarck.  As the season comes to a close, the battle for the Titan Cup between the Bismarck Bobcats and the Aberdeen Wings heats up with the two teams facing each other for the next three games.
