Wings Win Again

Oct 13, 2012

The Aberdeen Wings survived a power surge from Minot in the third period and hung on for a 5-4 North American Hockey Leaguevictory over the Minotauros Saturday at the Odde Ice Center.

The Wings held a 5-2 lead going into the third period and kept it until 5:13 left to go in the game, when Lucas Oliver scored the first of two Minot power play goals. A minute and 13 seconds later, Cameron Rowat added a power play goal as well to trim the lead to a goal.

Similar to Friday, Aberdeen scored a pair of goals in the first period and added three more in the second. After Minot tallied the game’s first goal, Justin Parizek notched a power play goal to get the Aberdeen scoring started and Peter Kreig’s goal put the hosts ahead to stay.

Aberdeen’s Tanner Holmquist scored two of Aberdeen’s three goals in the second period, with assists from Eric Baskin on each goal. Minot’s only goal of the period got the visitors back to within a goal at 3-2 before the Wings scored twice to pad the lead.

Joe Sullivan added a goal in the second period as well for Aberdeen, which improved to 4-6 on the season. Marcus Zelzer faced 35 shots and made 31 saves, while Tyler Parks turned away 24 of 29 shots for Minot.
