Wings Split Weekend Series

Minot 1 @ Aberdeen 2 (OT) – In another close battle in the Central Division, the Aberdeen Wings moved into a tie for 1st place in the division thanks to a 2-1 overtime win. Minot led early thanks to a 1st period goal from Fritz Belisle. The Wings would tie the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period as Nathan Burke scored his 14th goal of the season. After a scoreless 3rd period, the Wings would pick up the overtime win as Jonathan Bendorf scored with just :42 seconds in the extra frame to give the Wings the extra point. Wings goalie Matt Vernon made 18 saves in the win, while Samu Lonkila made 40 saves in the OT loss.

Minot 2 @ Aberdeen 1 – Minot kept pace in the Central Division thanks to a close 2-1 win in Aberdeen on Saturday, taking three of a possible four points in the road series. Minotauros goalie Samu Lonkila made 35 saves in the win and stopped 75 of 78 shots during the weekend. After a scoreless 1st period, the Wings got on the board first in the 2nd period as Andrew Walker scored his 4th goal of the season. The Minotauros seized the lead and the game with two goals in less than a minute span in the 3rd period as Jake Rosenbaum scored his 3rd goal of the season and Miroslav Mucha scored his league-tying 19thgoal of the season. Wings goalie Gabe Vinal took the loss in goal.

With the weekend split and the Austin Bruins being swept the Wings once again move into a tie for 1st place in the tight Central Division.  Only 4 points separate 1st place and last.  The Wings head home for the Christmas break but will be back in action Friday December 29th at Brookings and home at the Odde Saturday the 30th vs. Brookings.  On behalf of the Aberdeen Wings organization we would like to wish you and your family a safe & happy holiday season!
