Wings blank St. Cloud 10-0 to sweep the weekend

It was a one-sided affair Saturday night at the Odde Ice Center as the Aberdeen Wings shutout the St. Cloud Norsemen 10-0 to sweep the weekend.

Liam Fraser started the scoring off just 14 seconds into the game with an assist from Payton Matsui. And just 15 seconds later, Thomas Manty put another one into the back of the net unassisted to give the Wings a 2-0 lead in under 30 seconds.

The scoring barrage continued in the second period, starting with an unassisted goal from Matsui just seven seconds into the period. Natan Vertes put one between the pipes just over two minutes later. He was assisted by Manty and Clayton Cosentino, who picked up his fourth assist of the season. Fraser scored his second goal of the night at the 5:13 mark off an assist by Matsui. Nico deVita found the back of the net at the 11:30 mark, with Michael Reed picking up the assist, and Reed snagged the final goal of the second period at the 17:37 mark off an assist from Kevin MacKay.

The Wings would add three more goals in the final period. The first came unassisted from Jakob Stender just over six minutes into the period. Christian Abrams scored his first goal of the season with just under eleven minutes to play. He was assisted by Jordan Randall. Matsui snagged the final goal of the night at the 14:34 mark, his second goal of the game, with the assist from Trevor Russell.

Dominik Wasik completed the shutout, stopping twelve shots on goal. The Wings outshot the Norsemen 50-12 and were 3-8 on the power play.

“Tonight’s work ethic was extremely good from our entire lineup,” head coach Scott Langer said. “We had everyone contributing and the score was indicative of that.”

Aberdeen moves to 2-0 on the season.

The Wings travel to Bismarck on Friday, Oct. 16 but return to the Odde on Saturday, Oct. 17 to host the Bobcats. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at tickets.AberdeenWings.com.
