NAHL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

Honors this week go to Aberdeen Wings forward Nic Sicoly (Central), Philadelphia Rebels forward Brandon Stanley (East), Kenai River Brown Bears forward Filip Karlsson (Midwest), and Amarillo Bulls defenseman Brendon Michaelian (South).

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending April 1, 2018. The Bauer Hockey Divisional Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2017-18 regular season that honors the top performing players in each of the four NAHL divisions. Only players that are nominated by their respective teams are considered for the Divisional Players of the Week award.

Central Division Star of the Week: Nic Sicoly, forward, Aberdeen Wings

Aberdeen Wings forward Nic Sicoly, 20, helped his team to a weekend road sweep in Bismarck against the Bobcats. The 5’9/170 lbs. native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, had five points (2 goals, 3 assists) and was +4 in the two wins. On Friday, Sicoly had two goals and an assist in a 7-6 win, and on Saturday, he recorded two assists in a 5-1 win. For the season, Sicoly is 5th in team scoring with 41 points in 44 games played this season. “Nic’s attention to detail, his work ethic, and his leadership allows him to be a difference maker every single game. Nic has a tremendous heart and it shows in his game,” said Wings head coach Scott Langer.

East Division Star of the Week: Brandon Stanley, forward, Philadelphia Rebels

In three games this past weekend, Philadelphia Rebels forward Brandon Stanley, 20, had five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in a series against the Northeast Generals. On Thursday, the 6’1/200 lbs. native of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, assisted in all three Rebels goals in a 5-3 loss. On Friday, Stanley had a goal in a 6-2 win, and on Saturday he had a goal in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Generals. For the season, Stanley is 5th in team scoring with 31 points in 50 games played.

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Filip Karlsson, forward, Kenai River Brown Bears

It was a big weekend for the Kenai River Brown Bears as they took five of a possible six points in a three-game road series in Fairbanks. Brown Bears forward Filip Karlsson, 19, was a one-man scoring machine as he went off for six goals in the three games, which included scoring at least a goal in all three games. On Thursday, the 6’0/190 lbs. native of Mjobley, Sweden, had a goal in a 4-3 overtime win. The next night, Karlsson recorded a hat-trick, which included the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win. On Saturday, Karlsson potted two more goals in a 4-3 shootout loss. In 30 games with the Brown Bears this season, Karlsson has recorded 25 points. “Filip has been very good for us since arriving in late December.  We really focused on going to the paint as a team and getting hard working goals down the stretch and Filip embraced that greatly.  He was rewarded greatly this past weekend for his efforts.  We are excited for him and the team to end the season in a great way and can’t wait to see what next season brings for him and the team,” said Brown Bears head coach Josh Petrich.

South Division Star of the Week: Brendon Michaelian, defenseman, Amarillo Bulls

Amarillo Bulls defenseman and Robert Morris recruit Brendon Michaelian, 20, helped his club to a weekend home sweep of the Topeka RoadRunners. The 5’11/184 lbs. native of Wixom, Michigan, had three points and was a +4 in the two wins. On Friday, Michaelian had an assist in a 5-1 win, and on Saturday, Michaelian scored twice, including the game-winning goal in a 6-1 win. For the season, Michaelian is currently the Bulls leading scorer with 34 points in 57 games played. “Brendon has been a tremendous leader for us on and off the ice all season. His work ethic, compete level and maturity have been the main reason for his success. I have no doubt he will be a tremendous addition to Robert Morris University’s program,” said Bulls head coach Rocky Russo.
