Aberdeen hangs on, beats Coulee Region 5-3

The Aberdeen Wings took the lead against the Coulee Region Chill in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 5-3 victory.

Aberdeen took over the lead for good with a goal by Cory Ward at 2:47 in the first period. Trevor Husch provided the assist.

Ward was all over the ice for the Wings, as he had two goals in the win.

Aberdeen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Coulee Region to score on any of its three power plays. The 56 shots that the Wings put on net surpassed Aberdeen’s average of 29.6 shots per game this season.

Aberdeen also got points from Joe Mottiqua, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mack Ohnsted also scored for Aberdeen. In addition, Aberdeen received assists from Tyler Dunagan, who had two and Kevin Becker, Cullen Hurley, Joseph Sullivan, and Ryan Wagner, who contributed one a piece.

The Wings were unable to stop the Chill from sending pucks towards the net, and Coulee Region eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

The Chill were helped by Chris Hughes, who grabbed one goal. Hughes scored 18:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Aberdeen. James Hughes assisted on the tally. Coulee Region also got a goal from Ross Luedtke as well. More assists for Coulee Region came via Eric Drapluk and Jake Useldinger, who each chipped in one.

Reid Mimmack made 42 saves for Aberdeen on 45 shots. The Wings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. David Heflin rejected 51 shots on goal for Coulee Region. The Chill incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
