Wings Win OT Thriller Saturday Night!

Feb 4, 2018

Friday Feb. 2nd Austin 4 @ Aberdeen 1 – Austin Bruins goalie Alex Schilling made 33 saves to lead his team to a big 4-1 road win in Aberdeen, closing the gap for the Central Division lead to just one point between the two teams with just 20 games to go. The Wings got off to a flying start, thanks to a power play goal from Joe Strada midway through the 1st period, but it was all Bruins and Schilling after that. The Bruins tied the game at 1-1 later in the period, as Dan Petrick lit the lamp for his 7th goal of the season. The Bruins then erupted for three goals in the 2nd period to put the game out of reach, which included goals from Xander Lamppa, Alex Mella, and Evan Cholak. Wings goalie Matt Vernon took the loss, making 12 saves.

Saturday Feb. 3rd Austin 1 @ Aberdeen 2 (OT) – Nathan Burke’s power play goal in overtime kept the Aberdeen Wings all alone in first place of the Central Division. Burke also had an assist for the Wings while John Sladic scored the only goal in regulation for Aberdeen. Gabe Vinal stopped 24 of 25 Austin shots. Valdemar scored the lone goal for the Bruins while Alex Schilling made 33 saves for Austin.

With the win the Aberdeen Wings stay atop the Central Division and will be sending a minimum of 5 players to Troy Michigan for the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament at the end of the month.  They will also have Head Coach Scott Langer as the Head Coach of the Central Division Team!

The Wings will be back at the Odde next Friday & Saturday night taking on the Bismarck Bobcats.  Saturday night is the Yelduz Shrine Teddy Bear Toss!  Plan to bring a NEW stuffed animal to throw onto the ie after the first Wings goal!  Please wrap all stuffed animals in plastic to keep them from getting dirty.  All animals will be delivered to the Shrine Children’s Hospital in the Twin Cities.
