Wings Win OT 5-4 vs. Austin

The Aberdeen Wings took three games of four against the Austin Bruins with a 5-4 overtime victory Saturday night. The Odde Ice Center was rocking all night long thanks to the over 1,400 fans for the third straight game.

At the 15:21 mark in the first period, the Wings got on the board with a goal from #12 Austin Heakins (F-Mars, PA) with assists from #20 Jack Nile (F-Lisle, IL) and #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN). With one minute left in the period, Austin would answer with a goal from Pat Lauderdale.

The second period had a goal from Wings forward #14 Colin Hughes (F-Lino Lakes, MN) with a backhand shot in front of the net. The assist was given to #17 Will Hammer (F-St. Cloud, MN). Towards the end of the period, Austin would tie it back up with a power play goal from Ian Scheid.

In the third period, the power play would be kind to both teams. Austin took a 3-2 lead on a power play goal from Luke Forfar. At the 3:52 mark, Wings forward #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario) would score on the power play with assists from #24 Ronnie Hein (F-Chelsea, MI) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). The Wings would then get the lead in the third period with a great goal from #18 Austin Swingle (F-St. Cloud, MN) with an assist from #4 Eric Moser (D-Chicago, IL). Austin’s Ian Scheid however would tie up the game with his second goal of the night.

In overtime, the Wings would go on the power play after Bruins head coach Chris Tok received an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. Wings defenseman #3 Daniel Billett (D-Highlands Ranch, CO) would find the back of the net for the game winner with an assist from #24 Ronnie Hein. The win would be the Wings’ third win in four games against the Austin Bruins.

The Wings are at home next weekend against NAHL Central opponents both Friday and Saturday. The Wings take on the Minot Minotauros on Friday and the Bismarck Bobcats on Saturday.
