WINGS WIN 2-0 OVER WILDERNESS

Jan 23, 2015

The Aberdeen Wings were on the road Friday night, as part of a two-game road series with the Minnesota Wilderness in Cloquet, Minnesota. The Wings battled hard defeating the Wilderness 2-0.

In the first period, the Wings and Wilderness battled back and forth without either getting a goal. The shot total in the first period was definitely lopsided. The Wilderness had 19 shots on goal, all stopped by Wings goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK). The Wings only managed 5 shots on goal.

In the 2nd period, the Wings spent much of the time on the power play. 0-3 on the man advantage, the Wings scored even strength at the 14:20 mark with a deflected goal from #25 Tucker DeYoung (F-Lake Bluff, IL). The assists would go to #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN), who initially had a shot, and #19 Colin O’Neill (F-Odenton, MD). The Wings would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room after two periods.

The 3rd period started well for the Wings. At the 1:28 mark, Wings forward #17 Will Hammer (F-St. Cloud, MN) would find the loose puck off the stick of #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). The battle would continue for puck possession. The Wings held off all offensive attacks by the Wilderness for the 2-0 win. The shutout for Shortridge improves him to 10-8-1 with a 2.51 goals against average.

The Wings play the final game of this road series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:10pm. Catch the games live on 94.1 The Rock, ESPNAberdeen.com, or watch/listen on FASTHockey.com.
