Wings Weekend Preview

Feb 19, 2016

The Aberdeen Wings (15-19-9) continue their home stand this weekend when the Austin Bruins (22-19-3) come to town.  The Wings will be looking to build off last weekend’s 3 point performance which included a 1-0 shootout loss and a 4-3 overtime win, as well as move up in the standings.  While Austin looks to right the ship coming off 2 overtime losses last weekend to the Minnesota Magicians and the Coulee Region Chill.  Austin is currently sitting in 3rd place in the Central Division but only 8 points in front of the Wings.  Aberdeen will be up against the leagues 6th best power play and 5th best penalty kill units in the Bruins.  Aberdeen also supports strong special teams units having the 11th best power play and 9th best penalty kill in the NAHL.

Aberdeen will be looking for Jackson Graalum to stay hot, coming off his natural hat trick performance in front of the home crowd last Saturday.  As will Goaltender Peter Thome whose effort in net last weekend earned him the Central Division Star of the Week.  Thome has played in 32 games for the Wings this season and has a 11-13-6 record.  The UND commit also saw time earlier this week in the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Plymouth, MI.  DeYoung and Okeson are also coming off Top Prospects performances that helped lead Team Central to a 2-0 record at the tournament.  Okeson provided team Central with 2 goals while DeYoung added 2 assists in the 2 games played.  Thome will have to be on his A game this weekend as the Wings try to get their first win against the Bruins.  Right now they are 0-5-1 against the Bruins, but haven’t seen Austin since the 9th of January and Austin hasn’t traveled to the Odde since October 24th.

Friday night is kids FREE Friday!  Kids 12 and under will get in FREE with the purchase of an adult ticket at the door.  Corporate sponsor Friday night is Siebrecht Tree Moving.  The first 100 fans through the door will get a FREE Qdoba Entrée certificate, thanks to Qdoba in Aberdeen!  Saturday is the 2nd annual Yelduz Shrine Teddy Bear Toss Game!!!  Bring a stuffed teddy bear to the game or buy one in the lobby and when the Wings score their first goal of the night throw it onto the ice!  All bears and money from the bears purchased in the lobby will go to the Shrines children’s hospital in Minneapolis to help bring joy to the patients there!  The Wings are currently leading the Central Division in attendance and are 9th in the entire NAHL so let’s JAM THE STANDS this weekend and show our support for your ABERDEEN WINGS!!!
