Wings Weekend Preview

Mar 25, 2016

The Aberdeen Wings (20-23-11) are back at the Odde this weekend to host the Austin Bruins (26-24-4).  With only 6 games remaining in the regular season the Wings find themselves tied for the final playoff spot with the Minnesota Magicians who beat the Bruins Thursday night 4-2.  While the Magicians jumped in front of the Wings for the moment Aberdeen still controls their own destiny with one more game to play.  The Wings will become very familiar with the Bruins over the final few weeks playing 4 of the last 6 against them.

Special teams should play a role in the weekend’s games as Austin has the 6th best power play and 4th best penalty kill in the NAHL.  Aberdeen is 2-5-1 vs. the Bruins this year; however the last time the two teams met Aberdeen was able to get a weekend sweep of the Bruins at the Odde.  The Wings will look to get out to an early lead, which is something they haven’t always been able to do.  Of the 113 goals scored by the Wings this season 37 have been scored in the 1st period, Compared to Austin’s 52.

The Wings offensive struggles has been magnified in their latest games.  In the last 10 games played Ethan Stewart leads the team in goals with 4 and behind him is Jackson Graalum with 3.  The Wings will look to the home ice advantage this weekend as they start their final playoff push.  Friday night is military, fire & police appreciation night!  All active members get into Friday nights game FREE, families and veterans will receive a $2 discount at the door.  We will be honoring the back to back state champion Aberdeen Lady Cougars at 1st intermission.  Then finally bring your skates and skate with the Wings after the game!  Saturday night is the annual jersey auction with Val Jark of Jark Worlie Auction.  This year we will be auctioning off the Red Jerseys!  It’s also Billet appreciation night!  Get to the Odde early and cheer on the Wings as they make their push to the playoffs!
