Wings vs. Minot – Game Preview

Dec 23, 2013

The Aberdeen Wings are at home Friday, December 27th against the Minot Minotauros. The game will be the first following the NAHL Christmas break.

Minot (14-14-3) and Aberdeen (17-11-2) have been locked into a back-and-forth battle all season long. The Aberdeen Wings have split the last three weekend double-headers with Bismarck, Wenatchee, and Minot. Injuries plagued the team in November and December. The past two weeks the Wings have been without goaltender Chad Catt (G-Williamsport, MI) who shutout the Minotauros twice in October. Catt, who is 10-6-1 with a 1.88 goals against average could make a return, but the Aberdeen Wings medical staff has not released an official statement. The team is also without the services of forward #25 Lennart Palausch (F-Mannheim, Germany) who is currently on the national roster for team Germany at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden.

The good news for the Aberdeen Wings could be a few players who have shined against the Minot Minotauros in their NAHL careers. #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA) has scored 5 goals and 6 assists in his career vs. Minot. Other notable Wings players with great career stats against the Minotauros are #9 Patrick Steinhauser (F-Plymouth, MN) who has scored a goal and 8 assists; #27 Erik Baskin (F-Minnetonka, MN) who has 4 goals and 6 assists; #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI) who has 4 goals and 4 assists; #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) who has 3 goals and 3 assists; #15 Jordan Heller (F-Bemidji, MN) has 3 goals and 2 assists. These stats are career statistics versus the Minot Minoaturos by Aberdeen Wings players.

In the last 5 games, #16 Kyle Haak has been a threat to the NAHL scoring 5 goals and an assist. #11 TJ Roo (F-Coon Rapids, MN) has been hot with the stick offering 2 goals and 5 assists while #15 Jordan Heller has pitched in with 4 assists. Rookie players for the Aberdeen Wings have also stepped up recently for the Wings including #7 Matt Brettingen (D-St. Cloud, MN) who has added 3 assists and #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) who had two goals last Friday against Bismarck.
