Wings Fall To Bruins Friday & Saturday

Oct 24, 2015

This weekend your Aberdeen Wings played host to the Austin Bruins.  The Wings were looking to rebound and end their early home stand on a positive note, however no one told the Bruins.  Friday night the Bruins came out firing getting 18 shots on goal and sneaking 1 past goaltender Peter Thome to take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.  7 minutes into the 2nd Austin would strike again to take a 2-0 lead and looked to head into the final 20 with the lead until late in the period when Kevin Fitzgerald got the Wings on the board with an assist going to Tucker DeYoung.  That would be the lone Wings goal Friday and the Bruins would add an empty netter to give them a 3-1 victory.

Saturday night the Wings were in search of revenge.  This time it would be the Wings peppering the Bruins goaltender with 13 1st period shots.  It would once again be the Bruins lighting the lamp first though just over 2 minutes into the contest.  Aberdeen would battle back in a back and forth match up when Fitzgerald would once again be the player to get things going for the Wings mid-way through the 1st.  Assisting on the Fitzgerald goal were Ryan Cook and DeYoung.  Minutes later DeYoung would take matters into his own hands and give the Wings the lead 2-1, with Cook and Will Hammer assisting.  Things were looking good for the Wings until the final minute of the period when they let in 2 quick goals and ended up trailing 3-2 after 1.  After that it was all Austin as they got 2 more in the 2nd and another in the 3rd to put an end to the game and home stand for the Wings 6-2.

Aberdeen will be on the road next Friday night down in Brookings.  It will be a 7:30 start, and you can hear all the action on 94.1 the ROCK, Hubcityradio.com, or watch the action @ Fasthockey.com
