Wings Come Up One Point Short

Friday April 8th Aberdeen 2 @ Austin 0 – Peter Thome stopped all 36 shots that came his way for his 4th shutout of the season as the Wings kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 road win in Austin on Friday. The Wings opened the scoring late in the 1st period with the eventual game-winning goal from Kevin Fitzgerald. Late in the 3rd period, Gavin Payne would add an insurance goal for the Wings to make the final 2-0. Robbie Goor made 25 saves in the loss. An Aberdeen win combined with a regulation loss from Brookings on Saturday would put the Wings into the playoffs. Boxscore

Saturday April 9th Aberdeen 3 @ Austin 4 – The Wings needed a win to capture the final playoff spot in the Central Division, but a goal late in regulation dashed Aberdeen’s hopes and ended their season with a 4-3 loss in Austin on Saturday. Austin took a 2-0 lead with goals from Luke Notermann and Austin Rueschhoff in the 1st period. However, the Wings responded with goals from Jackson Graalum and Brendan Riordan to tie the game at 2-2. The Bruins regained the lead in the 2nd period with a power play goal from Jade Miller. The Wings looked as if they would take the game to overtime as Carter Roo scored to tie things up at 3-3, but with only :49 seconds to go in regulation, Miller scored again on the power play to secure the win. Kris Carlson made 37 saves in the win, while Peter Thome made 38 saves in the loss. Boxscore

With the Saturday loss the Wings season comes to an end.  The Aberdeen Wings Organization would like to thank all the players who will be moving on.  It has truly been a joy watching you develop into outstanding young men.  Please remember that you are now part of an extended family.  Once a Wing always a Wing! 

Fans, be sure to watch for information throughout the off season regarding season tickets, marketing opportunities, camps and the draft.  We finished the 6th season In the NAHL once again leading the Central Division in attendance with 38,419 fans attending the 28 home games at the Odde Ice Center, and hundreds more watching on Fast Hockey.  Proving week after week we truly have the greatest fans in the NAHL.  The organization would like to thank all Wings fans, volunteers, billet parents, staff, interns and everyone else for supporting team #6 throughout the year, without you none of this would be possible.  THANK YOU!!
