Feb 7, 2015

Saturday night, the Aberdeen Wings hosted the Bismarck Bobcats. The game was a very physical battle. The Bobcats sit 3rd in the NAHL Central while the Aberdeen Wings remain in 4th, separated by 5 points. Saturday night’s high-scoring affair was not in favor of the Wings, losing 5-2.

Just 17 seconds into the game, the Bismarck Bobcats scored with a goal from Jared Pike. The hit would almost be devastating to the Wings, as the Bobcats controlled the puck for the majority of the first period. Bismarck outshot the Wings 14-7 in the first.

In the second period, the Bobcats would lay it on thick scoring two back-to-back goals from Matt Perry and Cullen Willox. Down 3-0, the Wings would finally find the back of the net with a goal from #15 Brendan Riordan (D-Downers Grove, IL) and assists to #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI) and #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario). With under a minute in the period, the Bobcats would get another goal from Jared Pike. Wings would be down 4-1 going into the third.

On the power play in the final period, the Wings would get another goal and a rocket from the blue line. Wings defenseman #2 Ryan Cook (D-Lancaster, NY) would score his first goal of the season since coming back to the Wings via trade with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. Down 4-2, the Bobcats would put the final dagger in with an empty netter from Harrison Aide.

The 5-2 loss now makes it a 7-point separation between Bismarck and Aberdeen for 3rd and 4th in the NAHL Central Division standings.
