The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that goalie Zach Nagelvoort has signed a commitment to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Michigan University. Zach will join the Wolverines for the 2013-2014 season in the newly formed Big Ten Conference.

The native of Holland Michigan posted an 8-1-1 record, with 1.66 goals against average, and a .949 save percentage in his 10 games with the Wings. Zach came in and immediately injected the team with confidence according to Wing’s head coach Travis Winter.  We knew we had a chance to win every night that Nagelvoort was in goal.  Zach praised the coach winter, the fans and his teammates for his success, “coming to Aberdeen and playing for coach Winter was one of the best experiences I have had playing juniors.  Our fans are incredible and when you combine that with leaders like Parizek, Krieger, Horton and Grebosky and even some of the younger guys who stepped up at the end of the year it is easy to be confident.”

Nagelvoort finished 3rd in the NAHL in both goals against and save percentage for the regular season.  He earned the Juniorhockey.com First Star Performance of the Week for March 4th, NAHL Central Division star of the week on March 11th, and was named NAHL Goaltender of the Month for March.

“I grew up a wolverine fan. My grandmother had season tickets so I spent a lot of time watching and hoping that one day I would have the opportunity to go to school and play there. Until coming to Aberdeen I never thought it would be possible.”

The Aberdeen Wings are proud and excited for Zach to be able to continue his career at the University of Michigan. Zach will have the opportunity to play for one of the most storied hockey programs in the country and study at a great university according to coach Winter.
