Game Preview – Wings host Brookings

This weekend, the Aberdeen Wings take on the Brookings Blizzard inside the Odde Ice Center both Friday and Saturday.

The 2nd place Aberdeen Wings (32-18-4) sit only three points behind the 1st place Austin Bruins in the NAHL Central Division. The Brookings Blizzard (16-31-7) are at the bottom of the standings behind Minot. So far in the 2013-2014 season, the Wings are 9-1-0 against Brookings.

Who’s ready for stats?

Wings goaltenders #1 Chad Catt (G-Williamstown, MI) and #30 Henry Dill (G-Columbus, OH) have been stellar against Brookings. Dill is undefeated against the Blizzard posting a 7-0-0 record along with a 2.00 goals against average and 93% save percentage. Catt, who recorded shutout against Brookings last Friday is 2-1-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and 96% save percentage.

The Aberdeen Wings forwards have also shined. Four players have double-digit points against Brookings this season. #27 Erik Baskin (F-Minnetonka, MN) has tallied 13 points including 6 goals and 7 assists. #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA) has put up 12 points with 5 goals and 7 assists. Forward #11 TJ Roo (F-Coon Rapids, MN) has added 11 points (5 G, 6 A) and #22 Zach Doerring (F-Chanhassen, MN) has 10 points (3 G, 7 A). #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) has added 9 points with a goal and 8 assists. Wings forwards #15 Jordan Heller (F-Bemidji, MN) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI) have each scored three goals and 5 assists against Brookings this season.

Wings defensemen #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) and #20 Dillon Eichstadt (F-Bemidji, MN) have also added to the scoring barrage. Horton is tied with Baskin for most goals against Brookings with 6. Eichstadt has not scored a goal, but has offered 9 assists.

In all, 17 different Wings players have scored goals this season against the Brookings Blizzard. The Wings have outscored Brookings 47-18 in 10 games this season.

This weekend is also a fundraiser for Zach Kraft, a former Wings player who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Friday night during the 1st intermission, a jersey auction will be held to raise funds for Zach. Current Wings players Dillon Eichstadt, Jake Horton, and Jonathan Grebosky have graciously donated their 2014 NAHL Top Prospects jerseys. Throughout Friday's game, you can buy a raffle ticket to win a game worn Zach Kraft jersey. The drawing will be held during 1st intermission on Saturday.
