NAHL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

Honors this week go to Aberdeen Wings goalie Gabe Vinal (Central), Northeast Generals forward Louis Boudon (East), Minnesota Magicians goaltender George McBey (Midwest) and Lone Star Brahmas forward Justin Addamo (South).

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending October 15, 2017.  The Bauer Hockey Divisional Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2017-18 regular season that honors the top performing players in each of the four NAHL divisions. Only players that are nominated by their respective teams are considered for the Divisional Players of the Week award.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Gabe Vinal, goaltender, Aberdeen Wings

Behind newly acquired goaltender Gabe Vinal, 18, the Aberdeen Wings picked up an important home sweep this past weekend over the visiting Minot Minotauros. The 6’2/185 lbs. native of Syracuse, New York, won his first two starts of the season, facing 73 shots and making 69 saves in the process, which was good for a 94.5% save percentage. On Friday, Vinal made his Wings debut by making 28 saves in a 4-2 win. On Saturday, he made 41 saves in a 5-2 win to complete the weekend sweep. “Gabe came in with a very workman-like attitude and his week of preparation translated into the weekend. He made some timely saves when we needed them against a very good team in Minot,” said Aberdeen head coach Scott Langer.

East Division Star of the Week: Louis Boudon, forward, Northeast Generals

In three road games this past weekend, Northeast Generals forward Louis Boudon, 19, scored a whopping six goals and took over the NAHL scoring lead. The 5’11/165 lbs. native of Grenoble, France, and former NA3HL player (Metro Jets), recorded at least a goal in all three games as the Generals took two of three games against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. That included three goals in Sunday’s 6-5 overtime win. Boudon leads the NAHL with 19 points. “Louis has been great from Day 1. He works real hard and is a dynamic player.  We challenged him to put up some goals this past week and he answered,” said Generals head coach Joe Lovell. Generals GM Bryan Erikson added, “Coming in as our NA3HL tender from the Metro Jets we knew he had great development, and that has shown all season. He made big plays in big moments this weekend.”

Midwest Division Star of the Week: George McBey, goaltender, Minnesota Magicians

Getting both Magicians wins this past weekend in their three-game home set with the Springfield Jr. Blues was 19-year-old netminder George McBey. The 6’0/160 lbs. native from Dallas, Texas, faced a total of 61 shots in the two wins and made 59 saves, which was good for a 96.7% save percentage. McBey came into the game on Thursday after Springfield had built a 3-0 lead. He stopped 28 of 29 shots leading the Magicians comeback to a 5-4 win in overtime. On Saturday, he made 31 saves in a 3-1 win. For the season, the former NAPHL’er has a 2-1 record with a 2.10 goals against average and a 94.3% save percentage. “George has been solid for us all year. He gave us a chance to win in some very close games this past weekend,” said Magicians head coach Scott Meyer.

South Division Star of the Week: Justin Addamo, forward, Lone Star Brahmas

Veteran Lone Star Brahmas forward Justin Addamo, 19, was captain clutch this past weekend as the Brahmas got back on track with a weekend road sweep in Odessa against the Jackalopes. The 6’6/225 lbs. native of Clermont-Ferrand, France, scored three goals and was a +2 in the two wins, which included scoring the game-winning goal each night. On Friday, Addamo scored the game-winner in a 4-1 win and on Saturday, he scored two goals, including another game-winner in a 3-1 win. In 12 games this season, Addamo has eight points (4 goals, 4 assists). “I thought Justin really stepped up and scored some nice goals for us this weekend. He has really been working hard to find the back of the net and create some offense for us, so it was nice to see that rewarded in the two wins,” said Lone Star head coach Dan Wildfong.
